The Question They Won’t Answer

As the President and Democrats in Congress push for a federal bill to promote abortion in all 50 states, (despite the Supreme Court), a pivotal question has emerged in the abortion debate. It is a question those on the left do not want to answer because their answer is radical and unpopular with Americans.

The question is “at what point is abortion the taking of a life?” Or “at what point is abortion wrong given the fetal development of a child?” For pro-life advocates, life begins at conception, but for abortion advocates, the “right to choose” goes right up to the moment of birth. This pits the science of fetal development up against infanticide.

Here is an excellent exchange on this question between Indiana Senator Mike Braun and three people testifying on this issue before a Senate Committee this week:

Polling on abortion is basically split with roughly an equal number opposing abortion at every stage of development and roughly the same supporting abortion right up to delivery (no restrictions). The political battle is often over those in the middle and where a line is drawn. Poll results can float back and forth based on circumstances.

Here are a few examples from an extensive polling source in June that includes state breakdowns. The results are not 100% because a large chunk of Americans simply does not know where they stand on abortion in such detail.

• In the extremely rare case of an abortion to save the life of the mother, 58% of Hoosiers would allow this; 9% would not.

• In the case of rape, 55% of Hoosiers support allowing abortion; 16% oppose it.

• If a fetal heartbeat is detected 45% of Hoosiers oppose allowing abortion: 23% support allowing it.

• When asked about banning abortion at viability, when the child can live outside the womb (20 weeks), 55% of Hoosiers support this; only 12% support abortion after viability. (Current law in Indiana already draws this line in most cases.)

• Should abortion be allowed simply because a woman doesn’t want to be pregnant? 40% of Hoosiers say “no.” 23% say “yes.” This could be called an elective abortion, or an abortion used as birth control.

AFA-IN believes life begins at conception and a baby deserves human rights protections in that regard. However, drawing this line, or where to draw it, could be the biggest part of the battle next week in the special legislative session.

There will be people at the statehouse every day to make their opinions on this issue heard or seen. There will be a pro-life rally on Monday the 25th and Tuesday the 26th.

Click Here for info on the noon “Stand for Life” event on the 25th.
Here is info on the 11 am event called the “Love Them Both Rally” on the 26th.

If you go to the statehouse for life, it is helpful to wear blue. This is the color chosen for life for legislators to see.

You can call your legislators to ask them to protect the unborn here:

A Mile Marker for the Biden Administration

Today, July 20th is a mile marker for the Biden Administration. It has been 18 months since Joe Biden became president.

For most Americans, it seems hard to point to much that has gotten better in their daily lives since the President took office. One item that has improved is unemployment. It has fallen from 6.4% to 3.6%, but many point out that much of this is due to the winding down of the covid crisis rather than specific economic policies.

The economy still has a lot of strength but there are many problems under this presidential administration. Here are some examples:

• On January 20th, 2021, inflation stood at 1.4%. Today it is 9.1%, a forty-year high.

• The average American worker has lost $3,400 in annual income because of skyrocketing inflation.

• From February 2021 to February 2022 food prices had their largest increase in 40 years.

• When President Biden assumed office West Texas crude oil traded for $53.24 per barrel. Last Wednesday it sold for $96.87 per barrel.

• An average gallon of gasoline sold for $2.39 on January 20, 2021. Today, that national average is $4.63 after hitting a high of $5.01. This is a 93% increase in the cost of gasoline.

• As Biden entered office, our nation’s gross domestic product was growing at 6.4%. A year later, the first quarter GDP was a negative 1.6%.

• The National Federation of Independent Business’ Small Business Optimism Survey has decreased to the lowest level ever recorded in the survey’s 48-year history.

• Last month, consumer confidence fell to a 16-month low.

• On January 21st, 2021, 51% of Americans were concerned that America was “on the wrong track.” Today that number is 88% – an all-time high going back to 2013.

• During the last 16 months of President Trump border patrol agents apprehended 745,533 illegal aliens at the southern border. In President Biden’s first 16 months, border agents confronted a staggering 2,975,135 illegal aliens. This is a 394% increase in known illegal border crossings. (BTW, according to Amnesty International 60% of the women and girls crossing our southern border are being raped by the cartels.)

• A Hoosier homebuyer who took out a mortgage in April will pay about $215 more per month in interest than one who took out a mortgage in January of this year, based on the average mortgage amount of $236,701 across Indiana. This April homebuyer will add $77,283 over the lifetime of a 30-year mortgage above the January buyer.

• In May, 58% of Americans — roughly 150 million — said they are living paycheck to paycheck.

• Household debt is at record levels. Credit Card debt is now growing at its fastest rate in 22 years.

• In 2021 the price of electricity rose at its fastest rate since 2008.

• Data from the U.S. Commerce Department at the end of May found that the U.S. personal savings rate had fallen to the lowest point in 14 years.

• More than 50 other countries had better economic growth than the United States in the year 2021.
