Governor How Come

Governor Holcomb shocked many legislators on Monday afternoon when he vetoed House Bill 1041, the Fairness in Girls’ Sports Act. Siding with the ACLU and the far-left homosexual demands groups, the Governor chose not to protect competitive girls’ sports in K12 education. He cited legal concerns with the legislation.

What is particularly frustrating about his reasoning is that with a Republican supermajority controlling the legislative process, at almost any point he could have asked legislative leaders to pause and address his concerns. The only time I am aware of him possibly doing this was just before the House hearing when protections for collegiate athletes were removed. I think this change came from the Governor’s office out of fear of an NCAA boycott or corporate threats. (Governor Ron Desantis openly called the NCAA’s bluff goading them to boycott Florida. In every one of the 10 states to pass such legislation, the Indianapolis-based sports association made threats. Not one time did they follow through with those threats.)

As I have said before, if a court, a track, or a pool cannot be deemed gender-specific then neither can a locker room or a shower. This is not only about fairness but also about protecting girls’ privacy.

I think that the House and Senate will consider the Governor’s vetoes in May when they are back for a technical corrections day.

It would be very helpful if you contacted your legislators asking them to protect girls’ sports by voting to override the Governor’s veto of HB 1041. (This is particularly important with Senators as that chamber is very weak, more liberal, and out of touch with average Hoosiers’ concerns than the House.)

Media Disinformation Does Not Deter Parents

The media often seems to move from reporting to advocating. You may have noticed this when the Indianapolis Star falsely described a bill to keep pornography out of schools as a “book banning” bill in their headlines. In the same manner, the national media has smeared a Florida bill to protect the innocence of little children as a “don’t say gay” bill.

The word “gay” isn’t even in the Florida bill. What it does is recognize that sexual information for children under third grade is not age-appropriate and should be the role of parents to discuss rather than teachers or third parties.

A new national poll commissioned by the Daily Wire finds that contrary to the media smears and Hollywood freak out, this legislation is quite popular with 64% supporting it. On the question of whether it should be teachers or parents talking to their kids about sex and gender, 79% agreed that it should be left up to parents. Another allegedly controversial part of the bill was whether schools should notify parents if a child wants to change their gender pronouns in the classroom. Only 18% said that information should be kept from parents.

Faith Is Far from Dead in America

A new “Faith in America” survey conducted by the Marist College Poll and released yesterday finds, unlike many nations, America’s religious roots are more significant than the media and pop culture may portray them. Moreover, Americans are deeply concerned about the moral direction of our nation. A large majority, (72%), of Americans, think the nation’s moral compass is pointed in the wrong direction.

The survey results also showed that about 40% of Americans attend church once or twice a month, while 30% are attending weekly. Overall, 60% percent of Americans are attending church at least a few times a year. Only 22% never attend a religious service in a year.

Seven in ten say America would be better off if we prayed for each other. An incredible 86% of those surveyed said that they are praying for a family member. The highest number (92%) was found in support of “the Golden Rule.”

Most Americans also believe that the US Constitution was inspired by God.

What if We Were Ukraine?

It wasn’t my intent to spend so much of today’s email on polls, but there are a lot of interesting results revealing the mindset of our culture. Last week a national poll from Quinnipiac University investigated Americans’ attitude toward the invasion of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian people have inspired millions around the world as they endure a war. Pollsters wondered if Americans would similarly rise to fight for America if we were invaded by a military force. While most Americans (55%) say they would take up arms to defend their country from an invasion the political differences are significant.

A majority of those surveyed who identified as Republicans or independents said they would fight for their country in the case of an invasion, at 68% and 57%, respectively. However, most of the adults surveyed who identified as Democrats said they would leave the country, at 52%.

If you consider what schools, universities and much of our culture has been teaching about America, (that it is racist, historically unjust, and economically discriminatory), then maybe parts of this survey are not surprising.

The internals of the poll found that those aged 18-35 are the least inclined to fight for their country, with more leaving (48%) than willing to fight (45%). This is the group most exposed to Critical Race Theory and other anti-American ideologies. Majorities of every other age group would fight for rather than leave America.

Blacks are the least likely racial demographic (38%) to fight and most likely to leave (59%). This might, in part, be due to lies being taught about American history and opportunity, but there are likely other reasons too. Those reasons must now outweigh the significant and noteworthy history of African-American military service since our founding. Interestingly, by two-to-one, Hispanics (61%-33%) more than whites (57%-35%) were the demographic most inclined to fight for America and the least likely to leave if we were invaded.

In Their Own Words:

“Any country grounded in Judeo-Christian values can’t be overthrown until those roots are cut . . . In the new order, Socialism will triumph by first capturing the culture via infiltration of the schools, universities, churches, and the media by transforming the consciousness of society.” – Antonio Gramsci, founder of the Italian Communist Party
