Indiana Senate Abortion Bill Has Serious Problems!
As you know we are about to enter one of the biggest legislative battles in Indiana history. The outcome of this political fight is literally a matter of life and death for tens of thousands of babies.
I have always been direct and honest with you in these matters.
This is first and foremost a spiritual battle.
We cannot protect life without God’s favor moving in the hearts of legislators to do what is right in standing for innocent unseen lives that have no voice but ours.
For this reason, I want to share a brand-new item that has been created where people can sign up to pray for life in 30-minute segments every hour of every day of the upcoming special session.
You and friends in your church can pick times and sign up to pray that our legislators will “choose life.” (Deuteronomy 30:19)

That is a great way to help in this battle.
Now for some bad news. While I initially thought SB 1 was a good bill that significantly reduces abortion in Indiana except for certain circumstances. I was wrong.
Before I explain this, let me say that any bill that passes will have exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the mother. That is not where the debate is right now. There simply are not 51 votes in the House or 26 in the Senate without those exceptions. Unfortunately, we have a much bigger problem on our hands.
After speaking with key attorneys in this fight I am very disappointed with the bill that Senate leadership filed. Senate Bill 1 has serious enforcement problems. Frankly, they have to know what they put forward looks very good, but is in reality, if adopted as introduced, almost useless given the deceptive and defiant nature of the abortion industry and their allies.
You need not take my word alone on this. Here is the statement on SB 1 from our friends at Indiana Right to Life:
“SB 1 is a weak and troubling bill. IRTL brought the voice of pro-life Hoosiers to the Senate shortly after the Dobbs ruling, and this bill falls woefully short of what was outlined in that discussion. The bill fails substantively in many areas, including its failure to provide any meaningful enforcement provisions. This bill goes through the motions on paper but lacks any teeth to actually reduce abortions in Indiana by holding those who perform abortions or would intentionally skirt the law accountable with criminal consequences. As the bill reads now, the 8,000-plus abortions that take place annually in Indiana would continue unabated in counties like Marion County where the prosecutor has already stated he will not enforce the law. That is unacceptable and pro-life Hoosiers will not silently let that stand.”
Here is what Right to Life of Indianapolis said:
“The bill introduced yesterday, authored by Senator Glick, is underwhelming, to say the least. In short, it has too many exceptions and too few consequences. With no realistic provisions to enforce a prohibition on abortion and too many loopholes, caveats, and circumstances where abortion would still be legal, the bill as it is written right now would have very little chance of stopping abortion.”
If the Senate moves forward with SB 1 on Monday, it needs stronger criminal penalties against the abortionist and the ability of the state to enforce those penalties over the heads of left-wing, George Soros-type county prosecutors. (Enforcement powers through the Indiana Attorney General is one such option.)
When you pray, lift up this problem. When you contact your legislators let them know that you support life, but the enforcement measures in SB 1 are too weak and must be changed.
