State police investigating county clerk as ballot room access problems persist

Mark Mazurek • South Bend Tribune • July 28, 2022

SOUTH BEND — As the St. Joseph County Election Board continues to discuss how to handle access to the room where ballots are kept in the basement of the County-City Building, board members will now have to contend with a criminal investigation into potential election law violations.

On Tuesday, St. Joseph County Commissioners unanimously approved the hiring of local attorney Jim Korpal to represent St. Joseph County Clerk Rita Glenn during the investigation which “concerns policies and procedures used in the 2022 Indiana primary election,” according to a letter from Korpal to commissioners.
