Friday Video – Week 1 of Legislature

Not many things surprise me anymore at your state legislature. I was disappointed to see this first week of the Indiana General Assembly start off with a strange bedfellow’s event.  At a time when the Governor and many legislative GOP leaders are talking about not millions but spending billions more on education, mental health, and other pet projects, as well as important changes in tax policies, our friends at Americans For Prosperity decided to start off on Monday with a rally for marijuana legalization.  To me, this was an odd, off course, crony capitalist boost for ‘Big Marijuana’ that ignores all the social costs we see in states with recreational pot.  There is no shortage of issues that fiscal conservatives really need to address.  I have been disappointed in how few groups and politicians really push for smaller government.

Well, those on the left never have the problem of mission creep and veering off to the right. We have already seen bills to expand abortion, kill grandma, promote LGBTQ issues more in schools, and other bad ideas. I have a couple of good bills to report on in this Friday video. Click here to watch:

Note:  In my Wednesday email I mentioned HB 1011 a bill legalizing euthanasia (thus the “kill grandma” comment above) and simply listed the author as Rep. Pierce.  That is Rep. Matt Pierce (D), not Rep. Kyle Pierce (R).
